Cadw Cottages

Two cottages owned by Cadw (Welsh historic monuments)

I have been working on two very interesting properties owned by Cadw in the Abergavenny area of Wales. Both these properties were attached to historic monuments and were deemed worthwhile restoring for holiday letting.

They are both two bedroom, two bathroom now. The Tretower cottage was in better repair and benefited from a complete high end refurbishment. I chose a more traditional approach for this cottage using classic style furniture, natural fabrics – some in William Morris design and contemporary tiles with a nod to the past.

The second one – Crown cottage was in a much worse state and benefitted from complete new exterior porch and rear veranda and landscaping. I gave the interior for this cottage a more contemporary feel with a nod to the past with plate shelves, latch doors and column radiators but using contemporary colour schemes with a dark navy and copper kitchen and copper fittings in the en suite shower room. Traditional Welsh wool accessories worked very well with this style to create a cosy country cottage perfect for visitors who love walking the local countryside.
