Pembrokeshire Cottage

Pembrokeshire Cottage. I was asked to help pull together a dining room and a large sitting room without incurring any major building works. This was a project where a few simple changes make a huge difference. In the Sitting Room they had inherited a large brick fireplace/chimneybreast with black pointing which completely overwhelmed the room. The solution (without demolishing it) was to paint it all one neutral colour to disappear against the walls. They had a lot of books in various bookcases so I suggested one large bookcase against the bare wall we had bespoke made in a green colour to work with the rest of the room design. The colour scheme was inspired by the rugs they wanted to keep, so soft greens for curtains and sofa and picking up the terracotta colour of rugs for the armchairs. They did not want a TV in the room, I thought the space near the large window where TV would have been could house a desk perfectly and was a big hit with customer. The room now has a warm, cosier feel with the introduction of the soft furnishings and more side lighting. The Dining Room has a wonderful original stone wall with an old black range. By introducing black iron curtain poles and framed mirror it ties the room in to the feature wall. The customers wanted to keep all their furniture in this room so I recommended the beautiful oak leaf fabric for the curtains and picking out the green colour to paint the recess wall to show off the gorgeous copper plate on the wall, all of which worked well with the furniture. The whole room was competed with new natural looking flooring.
